Share links

A share link opens the latest build in the browser for anyone who has it. Reach for one when a reviewer should try the extension without installing anything or signing in.

Quick start

Press Share in the header. The control reads Creating share link, then a dialog titled Share link ready says the link is on your clipboard. Paste it anywhere.

How it works

A link points at the latest build, uploaded to your account when you press Share. It opens the same emulator the workbench runs, so the reviewer installs nothing and signs in to nothing. Later builds do not change a link you already made. Share again to mint a new one.

The agent's share

share is the agent's command. Typed bare it prints a notice pointing to the header control. Asked for, the agent runs it and prints Preview link: followed by the link. The agent's run copies nothing to your clipboard.

Sign-in

Creating a link publishes the build to your Extension.dev account, so it needs a sign-in. Signed out, the control reads Sign in to share and the agent prints Sign in to share: with the sign-in address. Opening a link needs no account.

A link lives 30 days on Free and 365 days on Pro. After that it stops opening, and sharing the same build again mints a new link.

When it fails

  • The control reads Sign in to share. Your session ended. Sign in opens in a new tab. Come back and press Share again.
  • A link stopped opening. It has outlived its plan's lifetime. Share the build again.
  • The reviewer sees an older version. The link holds the build it was made from. Share again after the latest build.
  • A toast reads Share failed. The upload did not finish. Run build so there is a current build, then press Share again.
